Travel to the Amalfi Coast Without Breaking the Bank
There are a few iconic spots that you just see all over Instagram every year! You're scrolling through your feed and you see a gorgeous infinity pool overlooking the ocean in Greece or you see an insane spa in a boutique hotel in Morocco. These spots just have a way of attracting the Instagram generation and have become some of the top travel destinations in the world. It's no surprise that the Amalfi Coast is on the top of this insta-worthy list too!
The only downside to these dreamy travel spots… the prices can be outrageous, especially when you aren't familiar with budget traveling! Not to worry, here are 5 tips that are guaranteed to let you enjoy your vacation to the Amalfi Coast without breaking your bank!
1. Be smart about how you fly!
Yes, a direct flight somewhere is convenient and yes we all wish that traveling to a foreign country can be as easy as getting on one plane. But when it comes to traveling to a popular destination, it is worth looking into alternative routes. Last fall, on our way to the Amalfi Coast, we booked a cheap flight to Rome and then took a bus to Praiano on the coast!
2. Stay in an Airbnb!
I am telling you, Airbnb has changed the travel lifestyle forever! Don't get me wrong, I looooove hotels. I mean that fresh hotel smell will always be my favorite! But there is something so amazing about having your own space, especially when it is for a fraction of what you would be paying at a hotel. When we went to Praiano, our Airbnb cost barely over $100 a night and the view was to die for! Here is the one we stayed in: Praiano Airbnb
3. Use the local bus system!
Getting around on the Amalfi coast can get expensive if you are trying to get around with taxis. The whole coast has a great bus system called the Sita bus that will take you from town to town for cheap!
4. Shop in the local market!
Eating in is an absolute must! If you took my advice and got yourself an Airbnb, you will definitely have a kitchen. Take a walk to your local market and by some essentials. It will save you some money and I promise you, nothing is better than a home cooked meal and a glass of local wine while watching the sunset!
5. Enjoy the simple things!
Instead of spending a ton of money on activities and tours, find the closest beach or cliffs and just enjoy being on the Mediterranean Sea! If you find yourself in Pariano, you absolutely need to check out One Fire Beach! The beach club has chairs you can rent that come with a drink and food service but if you want to save an extra buck, the rocks all around the club are free for the public to use and you can still enjoy the music from the club! Not to mention, just a few steps up is an amazing restaurant with fun little cocktails!
